Prescription Drug Abuse vs. Hard Drug Abuse(heroin, Coke, Lsd)? Is There Really a Difference?

Question by Nadia S: Prescription Drug Abuse vs. Hard Drug Abuse(heroin, coke, lsd)? Is there really a difference?
As I examine the previous generation as supposed to mine(I’m 22), I notice some differences. One thing that stands out to me is the difference in drug abuse. We all hear the sad stories of the rock star who was a drug addict and overdosed. You always ask yourself how they may have come to such a point where they depended so heavily on a substance. Heres the thing, previous generations abused the harder drugs. The coke, lsd, heroine, crack, meth. The kind of drugs that are illegal and have horrible consequences. Nowadays, we are seeing prescription drug abuse rampant here in the States. A good portion of these abusers are teens, college students, and other young people. I ask myself the same question: how did they get to a point where they depend so much on a substance? Heres the tricky thing though: these things are prescribed by a doctor. This could lead someone to think that abusing them is not so bad since it came from someone who went to medical or pharmacy school. I’m a college student myself and I could tell you that there definitely people on my campus who are definitely too dependent on prescription drugs. One that comes to mind is Adderall. It has created such a problem on college campuses. Some students don’t feel like they could get through a day of classes without it, but once they are off it they experience withdrawal symptoms. This is a very powerful drug, much like most psych medication. I’m afraid there will be those in my generation who will grow to be drones, unable to get through a day or face life’s reality without their pills. What really makes that any different from someone who can’t enjoy life without snorting or shooting up?

I have and it really does cease your appetite. However if you any type of blood pressure issues, avoid at all cost. It has a tendency to raise the blood pressure.

Answer by twiceborne
It’s one of the two ingredients in a now illegal weight-loss product called “Phen-fen” (the other was ephedrine). Several people died.

As to it’s adverse effects when used on it’s own, if any, I don’t know.
