What Causes Heroin Addiction?
Question by margarette l: What causes heroin addiction?
I don’t get why people take in drugs. I don’t understand why they would want to ingest/inject something into their bodies that could harm them. I’ve heard that there are a lot of cases of heroin addiction in America, and I just don’t understand why. Can anyone please enlighten me?

When one takes in drugs, the brain gets affected. Substances such as heroin deliberately change the structure and functions of the brain and alter the behavior, cognitive skills, and interpersonal relations of the individual. There isn’t just one thing that causes someone to be an addict. There a lot of factors that could lead one to become an addict: family, community, school, peers, and environment. The more a person surrounds himself with individuals having strong risks for addiction, the more chances he has of turning into an addict. Genetics also play a part in a person’s vulnerability to addiction.

usually someone pressures them into trying it. if they’re vulnerable at the time (due to stress possibly) they will probably feel the urge to try it…anything that could possibly make them feel better. after trying it once, if they enjoy the feeling it gives them, they want to try it “one more time” and then “one more time” and sadly, the cycle continues.
